"Hardware Malfunction"
Posted by Gilli... on 22. December 2005

I just purchased an Apple iPod. I make sure to disconnect the iPod properly
(by "ejecting" it and then by using the "remove hardware safely" utility
which does recognize the iPod). When it's time to shut down my computer, at
the very end of the process a blue screen comes up saying "Hardware
Malfunction. Call your hardware vendor for support. NMI: Parity
Check/Memory parity Error The system has halted. It only does this
after I have been using the iPod. I have called Apple support to make sure
I am disconnecting the iPod correctly, and they say that I am. What could
be causing this? Is it bad for my computer to have to shut down by pressing
and holding the on button?
